How to avoid Paypal SSN

how do you avoid entering your SSN in paypal? Whatever I want to do, i have to "update my profile" and in red it says enter SSN..but i rather not..what are ways around this? thx

Sadly the only way around this is to make another account. I did this and now no more ssn needed

If you don't want to enter it, don't. There's your answer.

A more complete answer:

There are several ways to get around the SSN requirement for USA paypal accounts.

Some people don't have an SSN. Could they require someone who doesn't have an SSN to give it to them? No...

Some countries do not require the SSN, for instance, in Canada, it's called a social insurance number (or something) and it's illegal to use that number for any other purpose than what it's made.... but they may ask to provide some other proof, like a passport.

You could set up a business DBA in the name of the paypal account, get a tax ID for that name, and give them that. It's perfectly legal.

You could also upgrade it to a business account, and do the prior step I mentioned.... then contact paypal and say you're just in the accounting department, and don't want to give out your social.

The other option to make a new account with a new name, address, DOB, credit card, bank account, new email, new cookies, new IP address, new LSO files, and start from scratch.

i certainly dont want a new paypal account..mine is old and unlimited..plus in good standings (so far). i guess ill go about using it as much as possible without entering my ssn. i did want to request a debit card for easy withdrawals but i guess i wont be able to..

No paypal account is unlimited. It could be "un"-limited... but it's clearly not, because it's asking for a social. Also, I gave you a lot of other options besides making a new one.

It's possible to manage more than one, easily, without getting them linked. I recommend it for a lot of people, because their accounts could get shut down at any minute.

You may also consider going with another payment processor.

ya i guess ur right..how would i find out my limits? when i view my account limits it says completed on both sending and withdrawal. so i guess its "no limit" ? not sure..pretty new to this.

running multiple pp accounts is a good idea also..

If you take in a 10 thousand dollar payment for say.... a car sale, expect a limitation, if the other payments you've taken in are for ebooks. Make sense? If you'd added and confirmed a bank account, and credit card, it will show you have no limits, but their are limits....

Lol then yes add your ssn or else you can get in big trouble (tax evasion). When i turn 18 the first thing i'm gonna do is put my ssn. If you're afraid of getting your paypal hacked then just change your password every week (that's what i do).

That is not correct information. Paypal can't force you to give them your social... not doing so does not constitute income tax invasion.

They can if you've exceeded the limits of the tax reporting requirements under the 1099-k, but even then, you can do what I've described above for other solutions.

Keep in mind, that doesn't excuse you from paying taxes on income.

To verify the account, you have to add two of three following things... credit card, bank account, ssn.....

The issue here is that paypal is asking the OP for the ssn. Please read the original post. Paypal can very possibly ask for ssn, ID, proof of inventory, utility bill, and anything else they want. His account is probably limited.

ok..i really want to have a paypal debit card..it just makes life a lot easier to use. anyone know a way of getting a debit card hooked to your paypal without entering ssn? thanks

If I remember correctly after you sold 200 items or earned 20'000 USD in your PP account you will have to provide your SSN. They will ask for SSN or you get limited (180 days?). read that on another forum where they discuss paypal and ebay limitations.

since we're talking about SSNs and paypal, i have an interesting situation

i'm canadian

i want to have a us (usd $) paypal account

reason for this is my suppliers are almost all american

meaning, its important that i am able to sell my products in usd $ and keep the money in usd $

converting to cad $ means i'll take a big loss

trouble is, paypal won't allow someone who doesnt have an SSN to get a payments pro account (basically a merchant account)

i've phoned paypal to ask them about this, and they confirmed that a non-resident cannot get this service from them

it doesnt make sense to me

i can open an LLC in the states as a non-resident and get an EIN...

any ideas on how to work around this?
